In this page, learn about what payment methods or funding sources you can use in your Fluz app or on the Fluz website.
What payment methods can I use with Fluz?
Fluz accepts the payment methods below. These are also called "money in" methods:
Bank account (ACH transfer/bank payment)
Bank cards (debit, credit, or prepaid)
Fluz rewards balance
PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay
Do I get the same cashback when I use a different payment method?
No. Every payment method carries a processing fee, and that fee is deducted from the merchant's cashback rate. Paying with your bank account (ACH) always costs the least, so it leaves you with the most cashback.
Example: the merchant cashback rate is 4% and you buy a $200 gift card on a personal account.
You pay with | Fee | Cashback you earn | That's |
Bank account (ACH) | 0% | 4% | $8.00 |
Debit card (AFT-eligible) | 0% | 4% | $8.00 |
Debit card (standard) | 1% | 3% | $6.00 |
Credit card or prepaid card | 3% | 1% | $2.00 |
PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay | 3% | 1% | $2.00 |
The fee also depends on what you're doing — buying a gift card is not the same as adding funds to your cash balance. The full breakdown is below.
Personal accounts
Payment method | Buy a gift card | Add funds to cash balance | Add funds to gift card balance |
Bank account (ACH) | 0% | 0% | 0% |
Debit card (AFT-eligible) | 0% | 1% | 0% |
Debit card (standard) | 1% | 3% | 1.5% |
Credit card | 3% | 3% | 3% |
Prepaid card | 3% | 3% | 3% |
PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay | 3% | 3% | 3% |
Business accounts
Payment method | Buy a gift card | Add funds to cash balance | Add funds to gift card balance |
Bank account (ACH) | 0% | 0% | 0% |
Debit card (AFT-eligible) | 0% | 3% | 0% |
Debit card (standard) | 2% | 3% | 3% |
Credit card | 3% | 3% | 3% |
Prepaid card | 3% | 3% | 3% |
PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay | 3% | 3% | 3% |
Rates are the same whether you use the Fluz app or the Fluz website. The fee you'll be charged is always shown at checkout before you confirm.
My card is a debit card. Why am I still seeing a 3% fee?
Not every debit card qualifies for our lowest debit rates. The reduced rates apply only to AFT-eligible debit cards.
AFT (Account Funding Transaction) is a special transaction type the card networks offer for moving money into an account, rather than buying something. It costs us less to process, so we pass that saving on to you. Whether a card supports it is set by the card issuer — your bank — not by Fluz, and it varies from bank to bank even for cards that look identical.
If we don't yet have AFT eligibility confirmed for your card, we apply the standard rate for your card type. Two things worth knowing:
A card can be correctly identified as a debit card and still not be AFT-eligible. These are two separate things.
Eligibility for a card is sometimes only confirmed after your first transaction with it. If your card qualifies, the lower rate will apply going forward.
The fee shown at checkout is always the fee you'll actually be charged. If you'd rather avoid card processing fees entirely, paying with your bank account (ACH) is free on every transaction type.
Why can't I select my payment method?
Before you are able to complete your purchase, you need to ensure that you've linked and verified your payment methods via bank hold verification. If you've done so, and you are still unable to select your payment method, it may mean that the merchant you're trying to purchase from is not accepting that payment method.
For example, a certain gift card brand may only accept Bank/ACH and debit card payments and NOT credit cards, PayPal or Apple Pay, while another brand may accept all payment methods. This is because Fluz aims to be radically "fee-transparent". We encourage you to pay directly with your bank account or debit card to avoid the 3% processing fees that come with credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Why do I need a back-up payment method?
When you transact with Fluz, you may be required to add a backup payment method. If this is necessary we will send you an email letting you know that this is necessary.
Currently, only credit or debit cards are allowed as back up payment methods.
In some instances, a temporary hold for the total transaction amount will be placed on your backup payment method. If the ACH payment clears, this hold will fall off within 1-7 business days depending on your bank (usually sooner) and you will only be charged once. If the ACH payment does not clear successfully, then your back up payment method will be charged instead.
