How to redeem, check balance, terms & help desk, transportation, travel, how much is my virtual card cashback, exemption

How to Redeem:

  • Mobile/Desktop:

    1. Sign-in or sign-up to your American Airlines account. During checkout, under ‘Select a Payment Method,’ select ‘Other forms of payment’, and choose ‘Gift Card’.

    2. Enter your gift card code and PIN then select, 'Apply'. You may use up to eight gift cards at one time.

    3. If the total price of the ticket exceeds the value of your Gift Card(s), you may use a credit card for any remaining balance. Your gift card balance will be applied to your order total.

  • In-store:

    1. Show your digital e-gift card/gift card to the cashier and allow them to scan it.

    2. If scanner issues arise, instruct them to enter the digits manually.


How to check your balance:

  • Mobile/Desktop:

    1. Enter your gift card code and PIN here then select, 'Go.'

    2. Your current gift card account balance will be displayed.

Abridged terms and conditions:

  • Gift cards do not expire, or lose their value over time.

  • Gift cards have no monthly or maintenance fees and cannot be reloaded.

  • Not redeemable for:

    • Gift Cards may not be used for upgrades, Admirals Club memberships enrollments, Admirals Club One-Day passes, AAdvantage Award Travel, or other non-flight products and/or services sold on AA.com.

    • Gift cards cannot be redeemed at airport ticket counters or through travel agents.

    • Gift cards may not be used for other products or services (including upgrades, Admirals Club membership or day passes, in-flight purchases or enhanced seat products) or for any additional fees (including baggage fees, pet fees, unaccompanied minor fees, ticketing fees for transactions processed through reservations, or any taxes, fees or charges payable in connection with AAdvantage® award travel or American Airlines Vacations℠).

  • Gift cards are redeemable toward the purchase of the base air fare and directly associated taxes, fees and charges that are collected as part of the fare calculation.

  • Locations:

    • Gift cards are redeemable toward the initial electronic ticket purchase of air travel for itineraries sold and originating in the U.S., Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.

    • Gift Cards are redeemable toward the purchase of air travel wholly on flights operated by American Airlines, American Eagle®, and oneworld® carriers for itineraries sold and originating in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands.

    • Gift Cards may also be used for payment of air travel on any oneworld® partner or codeshare flights designated in-flight listings as AA*. For a complete list of American Airlines codeshare partners as well as other codeshare information, visit www.aa.com/codeshare. They cannot be used for payment of air travel on any other airline. In addition, if a credit card is used in conjunction with a Gift Card(s), the credit card must have a United States, U.S. Virgin Islands, or Puerto Rico billing address.
